World Fantasy -palkintovoittajat 2014

World Fantasy -palkinnon voittajat on valittu heinäkuussa asetettujen ehdokkaiden joukosta, eikä varsinkaan romaani-kategorian voittaja ole yllätys. Sofia Samatarin teos, A Stranger in Olondria, on hieno, vaikka Gaimanin teos teki yhtä lailla ja eri lailla vaikutuksen minuun. Pienoisromaaneissa en ole vakuuttunut, mahtoiko Duncanin ja Klagesin tarina olla Valenten tarinaa parempi, mutta novelleissa saattoi tullakin valituksi oikea minunkin mielestä. En tosin voittajaa eli Kiernanin tekstiä ole lukenut, mutta muut kylläkin, enkä ymmärtänyt muutamien ehdokkuutta edes Hugo-skabassa. Onnittelut Martinille ja Dozois'lle antologioiden hyvästä myynnistä, mikä varmaan merkitsee monille kirjailijoille enemmän kuin palkinnot. Martinin nimi on kuuma.

Näihin voittajiin päättyy tämän vuoden genrepalkintoseurantani. Reilu puolitoista kuukautta ja alkaa uudet ehdokkuusasettelut tämän vuoden ilmestyneistä. Tajusin juuri lukeneeni kuluvana vuonna enemmän vanhempaa kirjallisuutta, uutuuksien jäädessä taka-alalle. Jos ennustaa pitäisi, niin olettaisin ensi vuonna joillekin ehdokaslistoille nousevan ehkä Jo Waltonin My Real Childrenin ja M.R. Careyn The Girl with All the Giftsin, mutta todennäköisesti paljon muita.
